The Balancing Act

How do you balance everything going on in your life? How can you connect with friends and family, date and work on a potential relationship, work full time, eat healthily, exercise, and still have "ME" time? I feel like I'm drowning right now in obligations and responsibilities...maybe this is truly what growing up feels like.

I am going to try and post regularly but just thinking about my new schedule is making my head hurt. Wish me luck! I'm off to enjoy a chocolaty and frosty treat even though I didn't make it to the gym today which, also puts me in a less than stellar mood :( Ah, trying to slap a smile on my face.

Did/do you have trouble making the adjustment from college-kid to working-adult? How do balance everything in your life?

  1. I haven't had to become a working adult yet because no one will hire me, however, I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by obligations. It's really important to your own mental health to just take some time to relax and work out all your own thoughts.

Check Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own - she talks about how important it is for a woman to have her independence and space. Sometimes we're so busy running around that we don't have a minute to just sit and be for a while. If you can make that safe space for yourself in your mind, then you can find balance no matter where you are.

  2. I haven't had to do that quite yet since I'm doing grad school...but that is like a full-time job in itself. It's kind of hard at first, but then you get really used to the new schedule and you figure out when you can fit things in!

  3. I'm not good at balancing my time at all =\ I get overwhelmed way too easily, and when it feels like I have too much to do, I don't even know where to start. And I don't even have a strict work schedule yet, so I have no idea what I'm going to do when that happens. I hope you figure something out, and if you do, let me know!

  4. I think the best thing to do is just really utilize any time that you DO have. Listen to your favorite music or audio book on your driving time, or call a friend. If you're waiting for a dr. appointment or meeting, check things off your to-do list. My favorite thing is to make lists and write things down in an agenda book. I'm sure you do that, but it really helps me gain some clarity and see where (if) I have free time. You will figure everything out!

  5. IT'S TOUGH!! and a continuous adjustment, but just think how CRAZY starting college was. soon we'll be seniors, right?! I've learned to love and become slightly obsessed with to-do lists!

  6. You'll adjust, I promise. 6 years later, a 40 hour work week is a piece of cake. Chin up!

  8. Don't worry, it will get better. When I started work in May I felt the exact same way. It's taken me until know to figure out a schedule that works for me. Now I have a routine that allows me to fit everything I want to do in. Good luck I'm sure you will be able to find your balance :)

  9. It is so hard balancing everything! The only advice I have is to write everything you need to do and everyone you need to see down. Write it out, create a schedule and try to stick it. Easier said than done but it really does help!

  10. It ain't easy. I'm a while out of college...and ugh, it took a while. I think a good way to prioritize is to prioritize YOU--yes, you want to be healthy/social/do it all right, but sometimes just DON'T look at the big picture. Look at right now, and if eating a cookie or zoning out in the tv sounds right, go for it and forget the other things you "should" be doing. Growing up doesn't mean you always have to be an adult...or if it does, I might be in trouble :D

  12. just schedule yourself some "me" time whatever that means to do...doing that doesn't make you selfish...and your friends and fam will appreciate it cuz you'll be in a better mood anyway :) !
