Eggy Oats & Pushing Yourself

Good morning! It is certainly a beautiful one--sunny skies, soft breeze--praying for a little drop in temperature though (high of 108 F yesterday, WHAT?!) Any who, after reading tons of blogs like Feeding Brain and Body and Running with Spoons, I was really craving some eggy-ish oats. I wanted an egg white omelet this morning, but needed my oat fix too so what did I do? Scrambled some egg whites, placed it over hot oats, added in the fixings (freshest blueberries EVER, chunky peanut butter, grape preserves, sliced nanner, half a bottle some cinnamon) and blam! Best. Breakfast. Ever. Repeat every day for the rest of my life?

As for pushing "yourself" which, really just means myself. I think it's become really hard for me to balance working so many hours and having a social life. It's just that I'm tired after a week of waking up at 4:50am for the gym, commuting to the city, working 8:45am-6ishpm, and getting home past's just a long day. Once it's the weekend all I want to do is go to the gym, eat until my stomach explodes, lay on a lounge chair, and spend copious amounts of time strolling through Target/Marshalls/Whole Foods. But...I (and you) need to push ourselves if we're in this "rut." Being around people is healthy and necessary and just FUN, so freakin' do it, okay? I will too :)

Do you like egg/whites in your oats?
Any advice for busting out of this work-rut?
Love you all, sorry I've been away for a while--for all that want to know: Teen Vogue wasn't as cool as I hoped, oh well!

  1. Best breakfast ever? YES! I love egg whites in my oats - I'll never go back. And I'm sorry to hear that Teen Vogue wasn't that cool... at least you got to see it, though, so you weren't left wondering :D As for work-ruts... I'm not sure lol. When I get really busy, the last thing I wanna do is go out, so I usually end up staying home as well. I"m really not sure how hard you should push yourself to go out if you're not feeling it... another one of those balance things that you've gotta figure out.

  2. Mmmm egg white oats are the bomb! Your breakfast bowl looks like a tastebud party to me! Sorry to hear about Teen Vogue, maybe something bigger and better is out there just waiting for ya! :)

  3. Oh yum that looks great! I'm not quite sure how you should push yourself to go be with people. I'm the same way when I'm tired- that's the last thing I want to do. I guess, my best advice is just make yourself go do it. When I do that I usually end up having a great time anyway!

  4. Sorry Teen Vogue wasn't as exciting!

Those oats look delish, I would have never thought of putting egg whtes in them, I'm going to have to try!

Hope you have a lovely weekend, just try to relax and do what you want to do! It is the weekend!

  5. Looks so yummy! I totally have the same rut happening with my social life! XP

  6. That breakfast looks delish! To break out of a workout rut, I like to try something new!

  7. Every once & awhile I'll add egg whites to my oats, but I'm much more likely to buy whole eggs than egg whites, and I never seem to find a use for the yolks

  8. Thanks for linking to me. That's a cool idea to put the scrambled egg on top of your oats, I love the pic too!

I'm the type of person that needs a bit of 'me time', so sometimes after a really busy week if all I want to do is relax by myself, I go for it. If I'm feeling lonely though, then I would for sure push myself to get together with someone even if I was tired.

I hope you have a restful weekend :)

  9. That looks like a power breakfast! I'm completely inspired to make lots of oats!
