Can't Do Wrong

Seriously, Isabel Marant CANNOT do wrong. Every single look she creates is just amazing; the colors, the layering, the textures, the patterns. I don't know how she does it but every look mixes subtle sexiness and tom-boyish-ness (word? Or did I just invent that?). Whether she couples sequined cigarette pants with a patterned sheer top or pairs cutoff denim shorts with a chunky winter sweater and thigh high boots, everything looks so comfy, relaxed and PERFECT!

Who is your favorite designer(s)? Mine is hands down Isabel Marant...okay, with some Ralph Lauren mixed in! 

What I Learned...

1. Anything that I deem "bad" at first can and will eventually turn around if I find a way to turn negatives into positives
2. After a lack of hot oats for 5 days strait NOTHING tasted better than breakfast this morning
3. Not writing every single thing I eat a day is so liberating, I can't even describe this feeling...
4. Having a shoe named after me will be pretty darn cool (more details to come in the near future)
5. Being promised 2 FREE pairs of shoes from an awesome designer is the cherry on the top of a perfect Friday
6. Working is truly not "work" if I love every second of what I'm doing...and do not even want to go home early on a Friday
7. I will feel like a major BAMF when I get to visit Teen Vogue next Friday :)

Learn anything this work week?

I'm off to the gym, then doing a major TJ's grocery haul, working ALL day, and I couldn't be happier about it!

If I can make it to the beach too, my life will be complete...oh, and a pedicure would be nice! Any color recommendations?

Long Overdue

I can't believe this is my 100th post! While part of me wants to explain how much I love blogging and what it has done for me, I won't...(you can read my declaration page for that). However, I want to gush a little a lot *happy dance* for one small but MAJOR reason. I want to gush about all my amazing readers and followers. You seriously do not know how big of a smile I have plastered on my face when I read your comments...it is truly one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced. To know that some of you are just like me: interested in fashion and styling and approaching it from a laid-back "this-is-a-jog-not-a-sprint-learning-experience-let's-take-our-time-and-see-what-works-for-us" mentality, not a competition: trying to out-buy, out-wear, out-post, and out-follow (I guess that means get more followers?) fellow bloggers. I appreciate the relationship we have been building and I can't wait to see it's progression, this tight little community is something that I really treasure...okay, sappiness over.
I will be posting twice today, an OOTD post later, but I wanted to make this one separate...a tribute to my lovely co-bloggers and readers! So what are you posting now, Cassie? Well let me explain, this is just a little collage (I use that term loosely, one of my first attempts with these "collages" on blogger) of things that are getting me through this week. I have been thinking so much (over thinking actually) about the future, I just need to appreciate what is going on now.

Happy Saturday

I know it's only 10:30(ish) in the morning but I already feel so productive. I went spinning (in my basement, couldn't make it to the gym this morning due to snow), finished Kelly Cutrone's book If You Have to Cry Go Outside and Other Things Your Mother Never Told You, and made my To-Do List for the day. Definitely read Kelly's book if you are interested in the Fashion Industry, Public Relations, or Just want some motivation and inspiration. I have so much to do before I go back to school on Monday; I am going back early so I can start my internship...I can't wait to post about that later this month!

Unfashionably Me

So my lack of outfit posts lately makes me sad, I guess it's been a mix of three things:

1. Stress: I know I am a notorious list maker but it seems like I have 1 million + things to do and it's only getting longer. It's as if I woke up two mornings ago and finally realized that I am getting older...I was so consumed with being a "kid in college" I didn't notice the world spinning around me...I guess you can say it's finally catching up to me, and very quickly I may add.
2. Intimidated: I don't know if I have posted about this before, but in short my sister has amazing style, literally she can put anything on and make it look effortlessly cool. Although I try to wear some of the things she does, ultimately we have different tastes...but I can't help but be intimidated by her outfits. I guess in a weird way I am trying to find something so unbelievably cool that she says, "Wow Cass, I love that!"
3. First week HOME: Basically ='s bumming it hardcore. I did find out that I need to head to my internship early for StyleWeek in Providence so I guess I won't be bumming it for long.

Today I just wore the leggings, sweater, UGG boots combo (typical Long Islander outfit I'm afraid) and got a manicure/pedicure with my sister...Essie color Luxedo which is a dark purple. I love it and it made me feel good that some girl asked me what color it was and then swapped her polish choice for mine.
I also got these Kate Spade earrings from my Dad/Mom/Sister as a little pick-me-up and token of good behavior? Hmm, either way it was a really nice gesture and I absolutely love them. Kate Spade emulates a classic and all-American style that I love, very girl next door, which is how I see myself.


Anyway, I have a ton on my mind tonight so I am going to continue to think (way, way, way too much) and then sleep because I am going to Florida in the morning to visit my Grandma! It's going to be very different this year since my Grandfather will not be there--but I know he will be looking over us watching us.
How do you guys deal with stress, loss, lack of inspiration?
Maybe I will consult D and get some outfit posts tomorrow!?!

Last Day of Classes!

Oh-my-gosh!
Today is the last day of classes and it is surreal; how can I be approaching my final semester of college? Time seriously goes way too fast, it's hard to catch my breath sometimes.
Just being in Rhode Island has been a great experience and a collage of images from my time at URI constantly plays in my mind; it will forever be on repeat, streaming through my entire body.
Just yesterday, as me and my roommate S were walking on Narragansett Beach, bundled in long, down, furry coats, scarves, gloves (thanks Grandma!), hats, and Uggs, I couldn't help but feel like I was living in a movie scene: staring out in to the deep sapphire ocean, watching brave surfers glide through the crashing tides, kicking the sand up with our boots, dancing on the seashells and staring at the boats on the horizon.
Sorry for the sappiness, but I am growing up so fast--AH!
Recently I have been filling out intent to graduate forms, spring internship paperwork, doing final projects and portfolios, going out to the bars to celebrate (successes, failures, love, loss?), decorating our Christmas tree (my house looks like Santa's workshop, thanks SYD!) and getting ready for formal. It seems like I have the most massive to-do list of life...but for some reason it makes me feel like I am really accomplishing a lot, and I am learning a lot about myself in the process: body image, time management, relationship issues (friends/boys...definitely not men!) and all the other issues a twenty-something girl deals with.

Here's my last day of classes (Fall Semester) outfit. Keep in mind, it is absolutely freezing so I wanted to stay warm. I also had to walk from the middle-of-no-where-commuter-lot, to the emporium to get my eyebrows waxed (hello formal on Sunday, and eyebrows are very important to keep groomed!) and back to Roosevelt Hall to get more internship forms (woo-hoo, not!); therefore I needed the Uggs today!

Ah this blog post feels so good...I have been working on my final writing portfolios all day and I need a little break...this blog post...before I take my break later and attend an "Ugly Christmas Sweater" party! (Pictures soon to follow). Since I don't have any ugly sweaters (hello I am a fashion blogger with amazing clothes!--do you pick up on my sarcasm?! HAHA!) my friend Rachael is letting me borrow her mom's "ugly" pink Christmas sweater.

I think with some cute heels and a black high-waist-ed pencil skirt the whole look will be cute.

Back to Francoise--I love her style. She was a huge icon in the 60's but I can't help but appreciate and admire her clothes with clean lines, and total sophistication.
Maybe it's the fact that she is French...French women just always look amazing, I don't know what it is, but I am definitely going to Paris to attempt to steal some Parisian style.
Oh, and can her hair be more choppy, layered, and perfect? I think not!

Speed Demon

Hey ladies!
Okay, so yesterday was not the greatest day. Well it started GREAT! An awesome breakfast (yogurt, cut up granny smith apple, honey sunshine Kashi cereal, blackberry, wheat-germ homemade parfait YUM!) followed by a great gym session...then on my way driving back to school BLAM! I got a $294 speeding ticket, I wanted to cry, scream, yell and explode, but I just sat there patiently as the police officer wrote me up. This very expensive lesson that I learned yesterday was a wake up call of some sorts for me...I drive way too fast, I have a lead foot, period. So when I finally got back to school I was not in the best of spirits. However, one trip to Charlie O's with my friends and 2 $5.00 pitchers of pink Sangria later, I was feeling happy, light-hearted and...drunk? I know I shouldn't be posting about my intoxication (on the Internet?) but I needed to get loose and alleviate myself of some tension, and I am 21 so it is perfectly legal, so I will continue talking about this. My liquid courage was the perfect motivator and at the bar I asked my friend to formal, score! So, now I have formal shoes, a formal date, and now I need a formal dress (okay, okay, I kind of have one, but there's always room for improvement and new ideas right?).

Today, despite a massive hangover, I am feeling pretty good. I had a great breakfast, drove below 40mph all the way to school listening to OAR and the Pussycat Dolls (weird combination right?) and I feel pretty good about life. This is my outfit: comfortable and casual, perfect for the chilly yet sunny Rhode Island day.

Again sorry for the horrible quality pictures! I do have a camera, but when I do self-timer shots they look horrible and do not get my whole outfit anyway. I need my roommates to take my pictures but they sleep in so late (lazy bums!), or actually...I just wake up entirely too early. Who goes to sleep drunk off sangria and 2am and wakes up (internal alarm clock) at 7am? This girl right here!

I hope everyone is having a great Monday so far. Appreciate the sunshine and look for the small things in life to make you happy, that's what I am doing! Can you guys believe there are only 2 more weeks of classes left?!?!

Repeat Offender

I may be going crazy, not quite sure, but for some reason I feel like I have worn this outfit before. The outfit is all basics, but I think the stripped cardigan I am wearing is so memorable that I feel like I am wearing this outfit all over again...okay, it is kind of similar...or exactly the same, minus different wash jeans and different shoes.
Oh well! Have you guys ever worn the same outfits and not even noticed?

Anyway, today is Monday and I think it will be the first and only day of classes for me this week. Yes, I do have classes on Wednesday but I am thinking I will bypass those and go home early for THANKSGIVING! I haven't even missed a class this semester so I think it is my obligation as a College Senior to finally skip some classes!
What does everyone have planned for Thanksgiving? Mine will hopefully be filled with great food, shopping expeditions with my sister and New York City bar nights (a girl can hope at least!) Also, I may need a new computer because my MacBook is biting the dust and it is really depressing, it is basically my lifeline!

Last night when I went to sleep I was seriously bummed, I guess I am just overwhelmed with little decisions that I need to make. Are these decisions that important or are they just distractions to break up the monotony of my daily life? Whose to know. But when I woke up this morning I was determined to start fresh, to not let the little things bring me down, to know that I am a great, beautiful person and I deserve everything that I want and I will not rest until I get it!
Sorry for my little rant/anthem, on to the outfit:

The outfit is pretty basic if I do say so myself.
I have a major question to pose: how do you avoid having your jeans get saggy around your knees when you tuck your pants into knee-high boots. That is my ultimate pet peeve. I hate when jeans bunch around your knees, it just looks so sloppy and messy. I tried tucking my jeans into my socks and pulling them tight when I step into my boots...I just can't solve this issue! Can someone be my jean-tucking-fairy-godmother and tell me the secrets to perfectly tucked jeans?
I think tomorrow I am going to post a list of things I really want to buy for the winter season, or maybe my ideal new years eve party dress? Whatever I decide I know it is going to be fabulous! I can't wait to go home and start shopping, I need some glitz and sparkle in the form of a new party dress and I especially can't wait to be with D so we can finally shop together after 3 months of being apart!

Smiling in the Snow

Hey everyone,

I have so much on my mind today it is not even funny. First off, how is it snowing in November? I guess it has happened before but I don't even remember when, it just seems wrong for there to be snow before Thanksgiving. Due to the unanticipated snow fall I am unsure if I can go home to NY today. I planned on making the trip because I only have class Monday and Friday...and I really needed a hug from my mom...and I also wanted to see my grandma before she heads down to Florida for the winter.
Why else did I want to go home? I don't know...school stress, potential career stress, boy stress, too much pressure to be amazing at everything stress?
Everything just seems overwhelming recently and I wanted to go home, have some R&R and get a manicure and pedicure at STAR nails for $15, not the inflated RI prices of $35 for a pedicure. A girl needs some pampering and beautifying, especially in the winter time.
MY HANDS ARE LEGIT CRACKING...EW!

Anyway, when I got up this morning I saw the snow and thought to myself "Great...I have no Uggs, no Jacket, no gloves, no hat!" So I decided to throw on my Hunter Rain Boots and figure the rest out from there. I decided on my Forever21 Jeggings (which I have been living in). They are warmer than leggings but structured like jeans, so they suck everything right in. I wish I invested in more of these and if anyone knows where to buy them, let me know! What else am I wearing? My gray long sleeve Kenzie tunic, with my Black Bass cardigan on top. I am also wearing my red Express sequin and ribbon scarf that I got at Marshalls a few weeks ago, remember?
Ah, that is a big part of going home. Marshalls trips with my mom and grandma, nothing like it!

Accessories: Swiss Military two-tone (silver & gold) watch, and 2 bracelets: a heart shaped one from my Aunt, and my Mother's old hooking bangle (LOVE!) Lastly, a faux pearl barrette in my hair.


I hope I end up going home today after my 1pm class. I really need to go home, I really want to go home, so I must, right?

PS: D, if your reading this (I know you are, your my most faithful reader), stay strong at school and get through these last few weeks before Thanksgiving break! This is meant to encourage you. And...I will buy you something with mom and grandma and send it to you so get ready for a package sees-tah!!

Oh, while I was typing this post I just found out I was offered an internship at a big Marketing firm in Providence for next semester! I will update soon when I know more information...I guess today is turning around!

Liar, Liar Pants on Fire!

Welcome to my post filled with lies!
Okay, fine I am not lying, but I kind of am....let me explain.

This morning when I woke up I looked out my window as I simultaneously checked my igoogle homepage. I wanted to scope out the weather and I read that it was going to be 70 degrees with a chance of rain. I looked outside, and it looked mucky but it wasn't raining. I got dressed, creepily caught E in the bathroom and asked her to take my picture and walked outside to my car. Then I realized, that it wasn't random leftover droplets flying off tree leaves hitting me in the face, but actual raindrops falling from the sky...IT WAS RAINING! My outfit no longer complied with the weather and I ran upstairs to change. So while the pictures E took were what I started off wearing I had to change it up...
Just know that I swapped my flats for Sperry boat shoes, my long black cardigan for a short black one, un-tucked my shirt, ditched the belt and put on a raincoat.

But here I go describing what I intended to wear today...before Rhode Island rain decided to make it's self a part of my day. I started off with my half button gray beaded J. Crew T-shirt that I got at the outlets about 2 years ago. I don't wear it as much as I'd like to but I had a presentation today and it is a very "sophisticated" t-shirt (or at least that's what I tell myself.) In my opinion, J. Crew just can't go wrong. Everything they design is comfortable and classic. Every time I wear a piece from J. Crew I have a huge smile on my face! And have you seen their catalogs? I love every element of the company: from the colors to scenery they use. I especially love how the movie cast of the Romantics was featured in the past catalog (have I mentioned how much I love Katie Holmes? Major girl crush!)
Okay, so on top of the t-shirt I am yet again wearing my GAP long black waffle cardigan. It really is just the most perfect length and totally comfortable. I think I live in it...I wash it though, I promise! Okay, so I am also wearing my dark wash BASS jeans. I love the company BASS, and they have some great pieces, I also love that their shoes are being featured more and more in major fashion magazines and also sold at Urban Outfitters. I have been wearing BASS for a while, before most people even knew what it was (My Grandfather worked for the company, hello corporate discount!) and I love how the brand has become more fashionable. Lastly, I am wearing my GAP denim ruffle ballet flats. They are seriously worn thin because I lived in them this past summer but I just can't seem to get rid of them. However, since I can now feel the street below my feet when I strut around campus I am thinking they must go to the big shoe grave in the sky. The good news about this is that now I can look for a new pair...Tory Burch Reva flats in copper anyone?


So far on this murky day my clothes are different than I originally photographed (I had a disclaimer about this on my blog so you were forewarned!), and I have had my eyebrows freshly waxed.
So despite the weather I am having a pretty good day.

A Button-Down Feeling

Hey there! So I am back with yet another fashion post, this time I am showing an outfit that I wore to class on Friday. The sun was shining and there was a crisp breeze. I love this weather in September because it isn't too hot or too cold, it is just perfect! I thought the best thing to wear would be cut off jean shorts (why not wear them when I still can get away with it) and a button down blue long sleeve t-shirt. I accessorized my outfit with a brown and studded leather belt as well as brown leather sandals (not pictured.)

The jean shorts I got at American Eagle years ago. What I love about jean shorts is their ability to be dressed up or down. I have worn these shorts to class, the movies, BBQ's as well as nice restaurants. It is all about the accessories you pair with the jean shorts as well as the shirt/tank tops/cardigans you wear on top! The blue shirt I wear I got at Marshalls. It is a half-button type shirt which I really love because it is kind of tunic-esque. I could pair the shirt with leggings, or even wear it belted as a dress, it is very functional and that is something I look for in every piece that I buy. The leather belt that I am wearing I found at Hollister. I am not a huge Hollister fan, mostly because I am not into big trendy stores who label every piece of clothing with a huge BIRD (Hollister) or MOOSE (Abercrombie & Fitch.) However, the accessory was amazing, engraved and studded brown leather which was neither gaudy or over-embellished. I wear this belt all the time. I highly encourage you to invest in a belt like this. You can wear it in the belt loops of shorts and pants, or belted around a dress to cinch the waist and create a more feminine shape. Lastly, the shoes (not pictured, but I wear them all the time so you will see them soon, I promise!) are brown gladiator sandals from Bass. I love these sandals because they can be dressed up or down and have a great bohemian flair to them. I always feel very KATE HUDSON when I wear them!

I think part of style is makeup and hair so I may describe these elements occasionally. For school I like to keep things natural and light. I basically use a foundation, mineral blush, bronzer, tan eyeshadow, and brown eyeliner. I obviously spritz myself with my favorite fragrances: Marc Jacobs Daisy or Burberry London. As for my hair I have the mentality:

"LONG HAIR DON'T CARE"
and I love to wear my hair down loose and natural.

Why Am I Inspired?

In my first post I explained a little bit about who I am and why I am creating this fabulous fashion blog...however, I didn't really explain why I am so inspired by fashion. Fashion is the ultimate form of self expression; where else would bow-ties, rainbow suspenders, combat boots and feathered earrings seem cohesive? I am not saying everyone can pull off that look, but anyone can try it and I love that freedom. The freedom to look however you want, and try anything you want. Fashion is better than a tattoo or piercings (although I love both) because it can be here today, gone tomorrow. If something works, GREAT! But, if you decide that trendy sequined hot pink forever 21 skirt looks much better on the model in the catalog than you at a fraternity party, you can totally burn the skirt and forget you even bought it. There may be some Facebook pictures tagged of you in that heinous get-up but, un-tag the picture, un-tag the memory and burn the skirt- easy fix!

But the reason for this post...WHY AM I INSPIRED? I am inspired by the great women in my family who each have their own flair and aesthetic. Each woman is different and unique, has different hobbies, different eye colors and different hair styles but each influenced me in a really amazing way. I have two aunts, let's call them the ARTSY AUNTIES. One is an artist and one is a craftswoman. While Auntie Artist paints amazing murals, pet portraits, and adorns herself with insanely beautiful original turquoise jewelry, Auntie Crafts creates amazing beaded bracelets and necklaces, and can make anything out of yarn and fabrics. Besides these two women my grandmother has the most amazing sense of interior design. She knows how to mix colors and prints, integrating amazing patterned fabrics, with bold and cool solids, she truly is an amazing designer. My mother is also a style maven in her own right (although she wouldn't tell you so), but she is willing to try anything once. I remember she wore a magenta and fuchsia skirt suit with a jewel adorned collar from Banana Republic. Although she is a self proclaimed "black-only" devotee, she looked beautiful and elegant. Lastly, my sister is my biggest style inspiration. Two years my junior she is light-years ahead of me in the style department. She can make the most basic jeans look chic and always follows her heart, not the pages of a fashion magazine. She is always my biggest fashion supporter and critic. She knows my style inside out and always helps me think of new ways to improve my look.

I am really blessed to have these women in my life, they inspire me on a daily basis. Without their fabulous style, amazing support, and amazing "eyes" for details, I wouldn't be me (and that would be a darn shame!) Be inspired by everyone and everything!

About Me (aka My 1st Post!)

So since this is my first post, I assume it is best to introduce myself...all I can hear in my head right now is Jay-Z saying, "allow me to introduce myself, my name is HOV, H to the O V." Anyway, back to me, because this blog is all about me! I don't know if that seems self-centered but it's actually true, and it's not like I am going to be narcissistic, just really Cassie-Strum-viewpoint-oriented!

Back to me...again. I am twenty-something college gal with a ton of personality and a definite love for women's fashion. I started following fashion in middle school, when I opened my first Vogue Magazine and my neighbor Robyn's house (I remember like it was yesterday). All the big, glossy ad campaigns, models with their perfect pouts and insanely perfect outfits drew me in like moth to a flame. Fast forward about 10 years and I am the same silly girl with long, brown, wavy, hippie hair, but I have found a style, and have been trying to establish it since. By establishing my style, I constantly look to other fashion blog and websites, as well as magazines, store catalogs, television and movie costume designs to learn what looks good together. I am self taught and even have written "Style & Fashion" articles for my college newspaper. I am also a member of a collegian, fashion blogging website for my college, which features over 35 top universities in the United States--so although I am no Karl Lagerfeld, I am no guppy.

I would love to share my fashion personality. I am unsure if this is because of my love of fellow fashion bloggers, but I am always inspired by what the people around me do and create. I used to be a self described "prep" meaning that if I thought something didn't look "J. Crew" enough I wouldn't wear it. Essentially, my wardrobe consisted of only said brand. I have evolved a lot since. I do not describe myself as fitting into one fashion category. Sometimes I want to be bohemian, draped in funky swirly patterns- with my wavy hair in full force. Other times I want to be a minimalist, straitened hair and an outfit with sleek and clean lines. I can be a prep with my Sperry boat shoes, or I can be a little "cozy-cute" with comfy and slouchy sweaters and leggings. Whatever the occasion, and whatever the time of day, I dress for me and no one else.

Fashion is an incredible outlet, inspiring and creative: there is no one right way to express yourself and this blog is a dedication to that testament. The have been so many instances in my life where I was directed to wear a certain style that didn't flatter me, just because someone told me to. Now, I wear what fits and skip what I truly believe doesn't fit my style aesthetic. I may not have the style that every reader wants or looks to replicate, but I have a style that works for me and I would love to share it, in the form of pictures and sources of inspiration that I love.
