Thinking Back...2011

This year has been such a whirlwind and I definitely wanted to take a minute and write down everything I've done/experienced this year. I have grown in so many ways, but the great thing is, I can totally see where I want to go and how I want to change in 2012. I haven't written down any of my New Years resolutions, but maybe I should just go with the flow and have fun this year...no pressure, only the excitement of great things to come.

2011:
  • Lived in a house on the beach with 3 of my best friends
  • Lost my wonderful Grandfather who truly inspires everything I do
  • Conquered my fear of running--no marathon sprinter but ya know...
  • Became ridiculously (in a good way) close with my little sister
  • Experienced a "real" Spring break--cruise to the Bahamas!
  • Graduated from college
  • Started dating--yes, actual dates
  • Got a job & quit it (Fashion PR), Got a job (E-commerce) & site went under aka lost a job, Got a job (Publishing/Magazines) and currently there
  • Went on a spontaneous trip to Spain
  • Had a "legitimate" NYE at Chelsea Loft, NYC

So that's not everything but it's the things I remember most when I look back on the year. I really need to start documenting things better...is that one of my new non-existent New Years Resolutions? Wishing everyone a happy and a healthy New Years! May 2012 be even better than 2011!

Stuck at the Airport

My 1pm flight has been deplaned so now I am waiting for my 5pm flight to New York. All hopes of my glamorous New Years Eve are IN THE TOILET! However, at least I will be with my family. What can I do while sitting at the airport waiting to board...blog of course!
I have seen some interesting fashion choices at the airport; from the woman limping towards her flight-gate wearing 5 inch nude Christian Louboutin's to the t-shirt and pajama-pant clad acne-face 15-year-old-boy (I know, not so nice of me to say, but I had acne and I am just exhausted, not a big fan of long commutes).
Anyway, I was thinking a lot about airline style. I keep getting visuals of old-school stewardess style. My mother's good friend Melodie used to tell me stories about her days as an airline flight attendant; there were weight requirements and beauty-ritual requirements. The right look had to be achieved, how crazy is that? Emilio Pucci even designed outfits for stewardesses on Brandiff Air in the 1960's...I would love to rock a uniform by Emilio Pucci.
Remember that Gwyneth Paltrow movie, View From The Top? That's the first thing I think of when envisioning airline fashion and style. That and Soul Plane, but that's a different story (we won't even go there).
How cute is this look?

Eve-entually Getting Home on NYE

Although I am still in Florida (flight delays, bad weather, airport setbacks) I am heading home today, on New Years Eve. This year has been filled with a lot; a lot of learning how to love other people, letting go of others and trying to find a balance of happiness that I am definitely still working on. While I do think that 2010 was a good year (despite some familial setbacks) I am really looking forward to 2011, I know that it is going to be a great year...it has to be (positive affirmations right?)
My motto for 2011:
“…I’d rather help than watch. I’d rather have a heart than a mind. I’d rather expose too much than too little. I’d rather say hello to strangers than be afraid of them. I would rather know all this about myself than have more money than I need. I’d rather have something to love than a way to impress you”

Some Highlights: Starting writing for my College Newspaper, Visiting the Dominican Republic with my family, Getting closer with my sister, Turning 21, Being offered/participating in 2 wonderful internships, Starting my BLOG, Celebrating the 4th of July in the Jersey Shore with some of my best childhood friends, Spending all summer in NYC working & playing, Going apple picking for the 1st time, Dressing up as a Nerd, Village People (Person aka Construction Worker), Pussy Cat Doll, 70's neon-girl, Farmer, Native American, and Police Officer all for the sake of sorority socials and Halloween...so many memories, it really has been a great year!

My Would-Be New Years Eve

I have always dreamed of a glamorous, sparkly, champagne-filled, midnight kiss, type of New Years. Since I turned 21 this past year, I thought to myself...this is the year I will have the New Years I have always dreamed of.
Then reality sets in, in the form of a massive blizzard to the East Coast. My scheduled Tuesday (as in yesterday) flight to New York was delayed and now I am in Florida until Friday. It really isn't that bad, the weather is great and I love spending time with my family (even though too much togetherness happens occasionally, right D?), but I had plans for New Years Eve.
With my school friends and home friends scattered around, I was contemplating going to NYC, Rhode Island, Vermont, and even Albany. But since I am coming back to NY on New Years Eve, I doubt I will be having the sparkly NYE that I dreamed of...however, a girl can STILL dream of her perfect dress right?

Repeat Offender

I may be going crazy, not quite sure, but for some reason I feel like I have worn this outfit before. The outfit is all basics, but I think the stripped cardigan I am wearing is so memorable that I feel like I am wearing this outfit all over again...okay, it is kind of similar...or exactly the same, minus different wash jeans and different shoes.
Oh well! Have you guys ever worn the same outfits and not even noticed?

Anyway, today is Monday and I think it will be the first and only day of classes for me this week. Yes, I do have classes on Wednesday but I am thinking I will bypass those and go home early for THANKSGIVING! I haven't even missed a class this semester so I think it is my obligation as a College Senior to finally skip some classes!
What does everyone have planned for Thanksgiving? Mine will hopefully be filled with great food, shopping expeditions with my sister and New York City bar nights (a girl can hope at least!) Also, I may need a new computer because my MacBook is biting the dust and it is really depressing, it is basically my lifeline!

Last night when I went to sleep I was seriously bummed, I guess I am just overwhelmed with little decisions that I need to make. Are these decisions that important or are they just distractions to break up the monotony of my daily life? Whose to know. But when I woke up this morning I was determined to start fresh, to not let the little things bring me down, to know that I am a great, beautiful person and I deserve everything that I want and I will not rest until I get it!
Sorry for my little rant/anthem, on to the outfit:
  1. BASS medium wash jeans
  2. Blue and white stripped J.Crew cardigan
  3. White Vintage Brand long sleeve t-shirt
  4. Brown tall boots with gold details
The outfit is pretty basic if I do say so myself.
I have a major question to pose: how do you avoid having your jeans get saggy around your knees when you tuck your pants into knee-high boots. That is my ultimate pet peeve. I hate when jeans bunch around your knees, it just looks so sloppy and messy. I tried tucking my jeans into my socks and pulling them tight when I step into my boots...I just can't solve this issue! Can someone be my jean-tucking-fairy-godmother and tell me the secrets to perfectly tucked jeans?
I think tomorrow I am going to post a list of things I really want to buy for the winter season, or maybe my ideal new years eve party dress? Whatever I decide I know it is going to be fabulous! I can't wait to go home and start shopping, I need some glitz and sparkle in the form of a new party dress and I especially can't wait to be with D so we can finally shop together after 3 months of being apart!
