Putting My Big Girl Pants On


Yesterday left me drained--mentally, physically...just done. I could barely keep my eyes open during my commute home, and I just wanted to cry. Sorry for the sad illustration of my evening, but I realized something when I woke up this morning...life goes on. I took today off from the gym because I really need a rest day (or 2), ate a great breakfast, and put on my favorite feel-good outfit. Now, I'm not saying these little tweaks can make all my problems from yesterday vanish, but it lets me know that there are still things I can do to make myself feel good. The important thing for me to remember is to NOT bask in my misery. You know; just stew in it, let it boil up, utterly consume every part of me. No Sir! I need to nip these feelings in the bud, discover how to make myself feel better and get over it.

I'll try to end on a happy note: any advice for how to meet new people--not necessarily guys, but that wouldn't hurt either ;) I find that moving back home has been a challenge. My friends and I are never in the same place anymore and we all have completely opposite schedules! I want to find another group of friends, not to replace my oldest and dearest, mind you, but to just put myself out there, find a new hobby, learn some new things about myself. Any advice? Know websites to check out? Places to go? Etc. I'm in the New York City area so it shouldn't be that hard, right? Open to all suggestions. Thanks and Happy Hump Day (finally!)

  2. It's great to have such a positive attitude! You are so right, that just stewing in a bad mood won't get you anywhere and won't make you feel good at all. I would try and find a group of some sort that you could join- any hobbies that you like? Or activities that you've always wanted to try?

  3. I don't like brooding in my bad moods either, but sometimes I just can't help it. There are days where I'm just in a funk no matter what I do, but I've come to realize that it's okay to accept them and let yourself feel down for a day. I think it's unrealistic to think that we have to be upbeat and happy all the time... everyone has their slumps. Of course, if they drag on for too long, then you've got a bit of a problem, but we don't need to berate ourselves over one or two bad days. I'm glad that you're feeling better though <3

  4. I say take some classes to meet new people! I signed up for pottery and met some awesome old ladies--we obviously won't be best friends, but they are so much fun to chat with.

    And way to do your best to shake off a bad mood! Putting on a snazzy outfit and going out looking hot always helps ;)

  5. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling that way :( But great job on overcoming it! Your outfit is adorable.

    I'd suggest trying to join a class for something you've always wanted to learn. Photography? Ceramics? You could learn a new school and meet people with the same interests.

    Those can be expensive, though. I've also heard of a website called Meet Up (I think). You can search for terms and groups in your area will pop up!

  7. It's always tough when old friends aren't able to see eachother much. You are right, keep thinking positive and you will get to a positive place. People want to be around happy people! Maybe try volunteering? I did it for a short while a couple of summers ago and met such a lovely bunch, we still see eachother now :) I like your blog btw! And totally get being a virgo!

  8. I'm sorry you're feeling drained :( I can relate! We all have those days/weeks/months where it just seems like everything is going wrong. I love that you have the ability to get yourself up and do things to make yourself feel better. It took me a long time to be able to do that on off days.

    My step brother just moved home and he was having the same problems. He joined a kickball league where they go play kickball once a week then go to a local bar for happy hour drinks and snacks afterwards. He has made a ton of friends and loves it!
    If you aren't into kickball (i know i'm not) you can join a softball league or even skeeball! (like the boardwalk, yes!)

  9. Blehh I am so sorry you are feeling drained... I have so been there. But you really do have a great attitude right now so please continue to keep your head up :)
    Oh and your outfit is rather adorable, teach me some fashion ideas!

  10. It's so true, life does go on! What a great attitude! I find it hard to find places to meet new people...maybe sign up for a an art or photography class.
