Hiatus

This break may be short lived, but I am burnt out in every sense of the word.
I need a vacation...I'm on a hiatus (for a few days).
Do you ever wish you could just get a way for a while?

Words of encouragement would be wonderful!

Need Some Motivation?

You know those days when you just feel crummy? It's as if the sun could be shining, you have you favorite pair of shoes on, and you just got a cute text message from a guy you like/date/etc.--but it doesn't matter. I've kind of felt this way lately; maybe it's my upcoming graduation, stress in applying/finding a "real" job and trying to figure myself out in the process but I am spent...emotionally spent. When I was flipping though the April issue of SHAPE magazine I found an article about how to be your own cheerleader. I have been noticing a lot of bloggers like myself have been stressed about upcoming graduations, projects, events, etc...so this may be the perfect time to pep all of us up! Here are the steps:
  1. ID your strengths: the article tells us to write down 3-4 emotional and physical things about ourselves that we love. This is usually pretty hard for me (most people would agree, I think). Anyway, I think emotionally I am very genuine and observant, physically I think I have a strong body (thanks to the gym) and long, wavy hair.
  2. Give your wardrobe a makeover: it is suggested that we highlight our assets and figure out what works for me. This is a funny one; I always think that I dress my body correctly, but I have been noticing (since I read this article) that I tend to hide behind baggy clothes a lot--there's a difference between the tom-boy look and swimming in my clothes. Perfect time for some spring cleaning. I am definitely going to donate my unwanted clothes to a charity bin (find a Salvation Army location here).
  3. Make your heart pound: without a given, exercise can do so much for a person--even though some days I want to just say, "get away from me treadmill!" usually after a cardio session I feel so much better.

I'm hoping all of these things get me out of my little "funk." Maybe they will help you too--having great friends and outlets to vent your frustrations is always good and looking/doing things that make you happy and remind you of happy times is always key--with that said, here are some pictures from my Spring Break cruise to the Bahamas!

 Enjoy the sunshine!

Spring Break Packing Woes

Hey everyone! I am leaving for Spring Break tomorrow so unfortunately this will be my last post (I won't be back until next Sunday!)...while I have been running around doing last minute things, manicure/pedicure and a little trip to Target, I need to buckle down and start packing. I wish some stylish blogger out there would just tell me what/how to pack for my 7-day cruise (I need to reuse almost everything I bring), here are some of my essentials:
Forever 21: straw fedora, GAP: flip flops, Target: Dolce Vita for Target wedges, Tote bag: Long champ, Maxi Dress: clearance rack at Marshalls (mine looks similar to the one pictured), Magazine: Marie Claire March 2011, Bathing Suit: Rampage

What should I pack? Any advice?

Spring Break on the Brain

I'm in the library, dressed way down: long-sleeve t-shirt, Sperry's and jeans--not OOTD worthy by any means. While I am trying to finish my marketing plan and proposal I can not stop people watching in the library. Does anyone else have this problem? I am sitting by the door on the 3rd floor (bad idea # 1). This floor is GREEK SYSTEM central and I keep seeing people I kind of know but don't really know. What do I do? Do I say hey, do the head nod, ignore them completely? Then I must (not-so-discretely) stop turning my head every which way to see who walked in, who walked out, who is sitting with who--when did I become so nosy? Right now I literally feel like a spinning head Medusa, I am looking everywhere, time to focus Cassie: just look at the computer screen, just blog, please just blog and stop looking up.
Change of topic, since I am procrastinating before my class at 11...I have spring break on my brain and these photos by Tamer Yilmaz from Elle Turkey March 2011 are getting me so excited to leave the cold weather behind and hop on my cruise boat--jetting off to the Bahamas! I can not wait for bright nail polish, big sunglasses, breezy patterned dresses and a backdrop of palm trees and turquoise water! Now if only I had a wardrobe Miu Miu and Prada...

Red Nails and a Smile on My Face

So I just went to Health Services and I...just have a cold (whew! I was getting worried). Spring break in the Bahamas, I am ready for you!! Today is a freezing-cold day and yet again I would love to thank Rhode Island for having bipolar weather tendencies, can it be sunshiny and warm instead of cold and rainy? This is my attempt at layering...I have been so inspired by the bloggers at Atlantic-Pacific and See Jane, am I getting better at this unappreciated art form?

Sweater: GAP, Button-down: Chambray from BASS Outfitters, Leggings: The Girls, Boots: BASS Outfitters, Watch: Michael Kors, Barrett: Century 21, Nail polish: OPI InStyle Red

Stay warm!

Freezing in a Fedora

Hello Beauties!
(Gotta keep everyone going strong with positive affirmations!)
Today was another great day filled with the gym, shopping, and some delicious food (okay, the same things I always eat but delicious nonetheless).

I went with my mom and sister to Forever21 tonight and they had some great stuff. Don't you love that store? It's perfect for trying out trendy pieces without spending a ton of money on something that may be a one-wear-deal.
I snagged some black skinny leg jeans (which seem to tuck well into boots...let's pray for no saggy knees), as well as a pair of black twill harem trousers. Oh, and let's not forget the major purchase of the night, a FEDORA!

I have always wanted a fedora, but they always reminded me of Britney Spears tabloid photos, you know the ones with her rockin' cutoff jean shorts, high socks, Ugg boots, a distressed Ed Hardy t-shirt, huge aviator sunglasses and a FEDORA...and don't forget the Starbucks cup.
Don't get me wrong, I love Britney, but due to this mental image I couldn't buy a fedora no matter how many I tried on and/or fell "in love" with. I use the words "in love" loosely, how many times have you gone shopping and exclaimed "Oh-my-gosh, I LOVE THAT!"?

Back on topic; so I tried a fedora on at Forever21 and fell in love with it!
It is called the "Chic Knit Fedora" and it is chic and lovely. Now you are probably thinking, "Cassie, why are you buying a fedora in December?"
Well my dear readers, I can answer this question in two ways:
  1. It looked good and like I said, I have never found a good-looking fedora...on me at least.
  2. I am going on vacation to visit my grandmother on Wednesday, nothing says sunny days in Florida better than a fedora!
  3. Oh...one last thing, I found out I am going on a cruise for Spring Break with a bunch of my sorority sisters, and I will definitely need a fedora when cruising through the Bahamas!
What do you guys think? Do you like it?
I hope everyone had a great day, mine got better as the day went on. Tomorrow is going to be filled with packing for Florida, but I will definitely make time to blog!
xoxo.
