Poppy Red & Camel

I have been dreaming in this color palate recently...there is something so springy and fresh about poppy red! However, I love that when you mix basic and neutral camel colors in the mix, poppy red goes from WHAM-BLAM-IN-YOUR-FACE to a color of understated elegance, and adds just the right amount of POW to an outfit! After looking at Tory Burch's take on the red trend (on her blog, click here), I am certain I will be buying something (or a few things) that are prettily-poppy this season! What color combination are you loving?

Rain Drops are Falling on My Head

I woke up again to the pitter-patter of rain on my window...then looked outside said window and saw a light dusting of snow! It's almost March, spring break is right around the corner...come on Mother Nature, bring the sunshine and warm weather! (at least I will be on my cruise to the Bahamas soon--yes I am a lucky duck!) All I want to do today is cuddle in my bed and watch movies (amazingly sappy chick-flicks and romantic comedies) but alas, I must do homework and be productive--head out on some errands too. So wouldn't my day be a whole lot brighter (minus the void of sunshine) with the aid of a fabulous rain coat? While I must admit that I have a trusty rain jacket that has been with me since Freshman year of college, it may be time for an upgrade; a big-girl-about-to-enter-the-real-adult-working-world type of rain shield (yes, rain shield sounds much more bad-ass, I can take whatever weather you throw at me Mother Nature).
How cute is this "Come Rain or Shine Coat" from the ModCloth Website? It is made by Nick & Mo and was only $56.99 (on sale)...and now out of stock. I'll just stare at it and wish it was mine--my pretty, long, belted, polka-dot, invisible rain coat!

Friday Fancies

Good morning! It's raining cats and dogs here in Rhode Island! Can I write a more cliche statement? NO! But that expression is the only way to really communicate how hard it is raining by my house--the not so gentle rain drops and gusting wind woke me up this morning...If you are new to my blog, Fridays are dedicated to the fancy things we wish we could afford but just dream about instead. It is a great little game invented by {av} at {long distance loving}, check out her blog and see what her picks are for today!
I was inspired by the rain this morning (I wonder why...darn RI rainstorms) and thought to myself: "Cassie, what would you want to wear if it was warm and springy...but gently drizzling?" "Well Cassie," I replied, "I would be wearing..."

What would you wear if you had a money tree?
Happy Friday!

Think About It Thursday!

I am definitely going to follow Kruger's words of wisdom!
I may not know what looks the best, but I do know what looks best on me.
As long as I stay true to myself I will have a style that I can be proud of!

Get Me Jewel Tones...Pronto!

Yesterdays post left me with a really bad case of SPRING FEVER! I just feel it in the air...I am starting my spring cleaning (a massive purge of all the cold weather staples I thankfully do not need anymore!) and embracing the sunshine and light breeze! I have been so inspired by the pretty jewel tones that were popping all over the catwalks during NY Fashion Week...my two favorites? Gucci and Louis Vuitton! There is something so sophisticated about jewel tones. I could wear a t-shirt, and if it's jewel-toned, I instantly feel dressy and chic. The colors make me feel like a Arabian princess (okay, Jasmine from Aladdin reference!) flying on a magic carpet. I'm corny and cheesy right now...but how can you not be? I wish you could all see the sunlight flooding into my bedroom window; I can see the gentle rocking of the waves hitting the rocks of the beach and I am feeling pure and utter bliss!

Come on Spring!

Hey guys! You know those mornings when you wake up and you are in a great mood? Well today when I woke up the birds seemed to be chirping (it didn't even annoy me), the sun was high in the sky, there was fresh frosty snow on the ground, and weather.com alerted me that today would be a high of 32 degrees. All these things contributed to my great mood...I feel spring fever coming on. Don't you love it when the shift of winter to spring starts becoming a little more noticeable? Hurry up, hurry up!!! I want sandals and seersucker shorts, bikinis and fedoras! Anyway, this is what I am wearing today:
Cardigan: H&M, Button Down: Bass Outfitters, Jeggings: Forever21, Boots: Boutique in NYC, Hair Clip: Urban Outfitters, Necklace (gifted)

What is your favorite thing about Spring?

Lame-Brain

Hi everyone! I am keeping this post short-n-sweet because I have a lot to do today; gym, homework, job applications, internship work to complete (I'm working from home today because my boss is in NY--I wish I was there too!) and a massive spring-cleaning-spree (is it too early to do spring cleaning in February?!) Anyway, I wish I could look this glamorous and chic while hitting the books!

Happy Monday...and if anyone needs some happy music to motivate them just play this on repeat, it doesn't disappoint! (PS: I have officially become a Gleek! I am on episode 5, season 1 and I love it!)

My Sees-tur is Here!

Hey guys! My sister and I have been reunited for less than 24 hours and have already had so much fun! We had a delicious lunch at the Whole Foods cold bar (seriously amazing, I encourage everyone to go ASAP!) and went on a MAJOR TARGET RUN! I got a new pair of Dolce Vita for Target wedges...they are so comfortable (I wore them last night to a party that I took my sister to). We never have "gone out" together in the past and I'm glad we did last night because we had such a great time!--I'm so glad we have gotten so close over the past few years; I guess growing up really does bring siblings closer together, we used to fight ALL the time!
Today we are going on a beach walk (hopefully I can snap some pictures), heading to Brewed Awakenings, a coffee shop, to get some homework done and heading to the Purple Cow, this awesome jewelry boutique in town!
My new Dolce Vita for Target wedges!
My sister and I on vacation in Florida- December 2010
Our salad creations at Whole Foods, look at all that grilled Tofu on mine! YUM!

What's everyone up to this weekend?

Friday Fancies

Hi Guys! So I have so much to do today: gym, homework, pick up my sister in Providence (she's visiting until Sunday and I am so excited). This is just a quick Friday Fancies post (the brilliant idea by the sweetest blogger {av}, at {long distance loving} check it out and play along!)
This is an outfit I would love to be wearing...if I lived in NYC *sigh* (one day though!) I can envision myself wearing this as a high-power magazine editor, dashing out for a little night on the town with my girlfriends after work. It's a bit more sophisticated than what I would usually wear. But this is Friday Fancies gosh darn it and I will pretend I am this glamorous lady! RIGHT. NOW.
Dress: Milly-Metallic Brocade Dress, Tights: Hue, Jacket: Viparo "Aubrey Jacket," Wedges: Jeffrey Campbell Zipper Wedge Boots, Belt: vintage Alligator-skin

Come play along!
Happy Friday!

What Fine Um...Draping You Have!

Hey y'all! (Like my Texan twang?) I woke up this morning and felt so much better, refreshed and ready to tackle the day. I hope my good mood continues, I have so much to look forward to this weekend, including my sister D visiting tomorrow! I have so many things planned--I want to take her to Providence and Bristol and a bunch of other places--I am so excited!
On to the fashion...I am obsessed with draping recently! There is something about it that seems so elegant and polished. I love how a draped skirt can look completely casual with a simple white long-sleeve t-shirt, colorful scarf, cozy socks and boots or glam and chic dressed up with a fancy black tank, pretty peep-toe heels, a statement necklace and black opaque tights! Here are some of the skirts that I have been lusting after...

 3.1 Phillip Lim: Fold-over Draped Skirt (100% Silk) $295

Elizabeth and James: Draped Skirt $265

Tibi: Draped Bow Mini Skirt $278

What are you all lusting over? Please share them with me! There is always more room on my lust list!
Happy Thursday!

Rough & Tough

Today was a really rough day...long, long, long! I'm sorry for the lack of explanation, I am just EXHAUSTED. However, one person really brightened up my day, don't you love that? Someone that can just break through the wall and make you smile, even if only for a little while? At my internship I wore:
Dress: Target, Leggings: Target, Turtleneck: Ralph Lauren, Boots: Bass, Necklace: initial on silver plate (gifted from Aunt), Watch: Michael Kors

See you all tomorrow!
Hope everyone had a great day!
By the way...S is back, thank the Lord!

What's on Your Head?

Hi!!! Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on my Valentine's Day post! I really do feel like it's a day to celebrate all types of love, not just the romantic kind...although I can't wait until I have a special guy in my life that I can share it with! But I have this theory that when you are in love, everyday seems like Valentines day (maybe I am just a HUGE romantic...oh well!)
Anyway, my post is called "What's on your head?" because I felt like I was getting weird looks today when I wore my silk scarf as a head wrap. Yes, I know I am probably being paranoid and yes, I have been Google-stalking Nicole Richie (now Madden...is it now Richie-Madden?) and I can't get enough of her bohemian look. It seems like she has every scarf made by the late Alexander McQueen, and I am insanely jealous of her collection of beautiful silk. So despite my attempt to channel Nicole Richie (maybe I failed?) and my need for Spring (there are flower details on the scarf), I still tried to act confident while walking around my windy and cold campus! My outfit consisted of:
Jeans: Forever21, Sweater: Gap, Scarf (worn as a head wrap): OSCAR by Oscar de la Renta, Flats: GAP, Necklace: Initials on Silver plate (gifted from Aunt)

Do you ever feel like people are staring at you for some of your fashion choices?
Am I just being paranoid?!
Have a great Tuesday, I am off to get some homework done...boo!

Beautiful Love

So my Valentine's Day is not going to be a gushy-dinner-flowers-romantic holiday anymore. Unfortunately yesterday I told my "tentative" valentine that it is probably best if we "end" things. Although the situation is confusing (and I will spare you all the details), I am really happy to have a good head on my shoulders. Yeah I make mistakes, and sometimes I think to quickly, jump the gun (not literally) and act way to spontaneously for my own good...but I wouldn't change myself for the world. So today on Valentine's Day, a day celebrating love, I am going to celebrate myself. This is the first time (in adulthood) that I have ever felt confident in being me. I am finally happy in my own skin; I found love and support in the blogging community that I never knew existed and I have tried to step outside of my comfort zone style-wise (a major confidence boost). Aside from those two things I finally found a work out regiment that works for me and I feel happy, healthy, and strong!
So to all you happy, healthy, and confident ladies out there: let's celebrate being in love with who we are...because it's about damn time!

5 Ways to enjoy a Single Girl's Valentine's Day
  1. Don a pretty dress: it's a day of love, just do it!
  2. Call someone (a family member, friend) and tell them that you love them! Or send a cute Kate Spade e-card! As The Alternative Wife reminded her readers Valentines day is "a day to celebrate all types of love. Love of family, friends, or a significant other. It's about valuing all the love you have in your life."
  3.  Watch the movie Valentine's Day...it's just a feel good movie!
  4. Do something that makes you feel strong and beautiful--go to the gym, take a long walk, buy a new lip stick, paint your nails a pretty ballet pink or fire engine red!
  5. Cheat a little: go ahead and have that piece of red velvet cake, or buy some X&O gummies! You can splurge today!

Happy Valentine's Day Girls!

More is More...

Remember these shoes? For some reason I hadn't been wearing them AT ALL since I bought them in mid-2010! It was so strange because I love them so much. However, last night was the third night in a row that I wore those babies out on the town! I have noticed how much I love the rough-and-tough edginess they provide to an outfit...and I also realized something, I have been dressing way, way, way, more "conservative" (and I use that term loosely) lately.
I will confess that just last semester (and every semester of college previously) I have dressed like every other girl out there; I followed the "less is more" approach. Now I see those girls and wonder where they left their jacket or tights...because surely no one could be wearing a skirt that high or a top that low (am I an old fart now?) I just really appreciate tailored clothing, a good fit...classy and understated women...that is true sex appeal in my opinion:
I know of my sex appeal. I know about sexuality, and I know how to use it - tastefully, of course.
Rachel Bilson
Last night when I went out, I admit I did try on that god-awful tight and short black body-con skirt I have worn to death (I think the color is charcoal gray now...originally black), and thought twice. Instead I put on:
Harem pants: Forever21, Tank Top: Kimichi Blue (via Urban Outfitters), Boots: Wet Seal, Leopard Belt: George (via Walmart), Watch: Michael Kors

Has your styled changed drastically in your 20's? I feel like I am growing up and trying and hoping to be more wardrobe-appropriate-conscious.

PS: Sorry again for the horrible pictures, S will be back soon!

5 Things...

It's early, I'm awake and ready to take on the day! While I used to dread having such an early internal-alarm-clock now I kind of like it...I feel like I get so much accomplished while others are still sleeping. I have a ton to do today and this is just a little post paying tribute to 5 things I am loving today!
  1.  Rachel Bilson for Madison Magazine. She is the cover girl for the March 2011 issue and I love her laid-back California cool style. (Check out a behind the scenes video of the shoot here)
  2. Cute Valentine's Day card from my friend Christina...I'm in RI and she's in PA and we still make time to write to each other...I love handwritten notes! (Hey Pen-pal you have a card coming your way!)
  3. My pretty notebooks that I use to organize absolutely everything in my life: internship notes, regular day notes, monthly calender, daily calender, food log (a bit obsessive but I'm a Virgo, I think it's part of my zodiac sign to be a tad OCD!)
  4. My nalgene water bottle! I am so excited to break a sweat after I eat my nice big breakfast, which leads me to...number
  5. Kashi Honey Sunshine Cereal...my favorite cereal ever! And with that said I am off to enjoy my power breakfast: 3/4 c. Kashi cereal, small pre-packaged cup of strawberry yogurt, chopped apple, 1/4 c. blueberries, 1/4 c. pumpkin (heated in microwave), dash of cinnamon...all mixed together into a lovely parfait (served in my favorite paisley bowl *from Target* haha)

Have a great Saturday!
PS: I love making these little collages...I want to take some Digital Art/Design classes...anyone have any recommendations where to start?

Long Overdue

Sorry for the really horrible pictures, they were taken on photobooth on my Mac...sadly my photographer and best bud S is vacationing in Florida for a few days, hanging out with her beau (oh Valentine's day, how you make me smile and dance around like fool!). Anyway, here is what I am wearing to my internship today...I need to make this post quick because I am dropping off the look books I just assembled to a client (oh the jobs of an intern working at a fashion PR firm...hey I'm not complaining!)
I'm wearing:
Leggings: Target, Boots: Bass, Long Sleeve: Target, Tunic: Adrienne Vittadini, Belt: Borrowed/Gifted from Mom, Watch: Michael Kors, Scarf: Walmart

Sweet cowlick right?
Side Note: How much are you loving NYFW? I just can't get enough!

I love Isabel Marant!

Has everyone seen the Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2011 Collection? It is seriously the most amazing thing that I have ever seen! She is a truly inspiring designer--she has financial smarts, an original aesthetic and a shabby-chic-Parisian-bad-gal style (read this interview at Hobo Magazine, and this one at Elle). While I love the collection these are my favorite looks...chunky knits, lots of leg, structured jackets, belted EVERYTHING...it is so boho-rocker I can't explain how badly I need some Isabel Marant pieces in my wardrobe.

Obsessed?
